Details have emerged about the stunning transformation of Colorado Springs’
historic Pikeview Quarry into a potential mountain bike paradise.

Some call it, “The scar”, but in just six months, the PikeView Quarry in northwest Colorado Springs will look very different. The News5 Investigates team got a first-hand look at what work has been going on for all these years at the PikeView Quarry, and why the project–initially set to be completed this year– could take at least another four years before it becomes a public space.

There is an ambitious vision for the Pike View Quarry on the northwest side of Colorado Springs plans for a world-class bike park. Only, a lot has to happen first. Bill Folsom is following up for us tonight. With a closer look at the status of the transition.

The Pikeview Frontage has historically been used socially for hiking,
biking, wildlife watching and dog walking. The addition brings the total
acreage of Blodgett Open Space to 384.

Major excavation work to reclaim the Pikeview Quarry scar that looms over
the northwest edge of town is getting started, potentially setting the
stage for a new mountain bike park.

On Tuesday, city council will vote to spend another 2.7 million dollars to
buy more acres from the quarry owners.

The company responsible for reclaiming Pikeview Quarry will be allowed to
take 150,000 dump trucks of dirt from open space recently purchased by
Colorado Springs for $6.8 million — a

which owns the Black Canyon Quarry near the Cedar Heights neighborhood and
Pikeview Quarry neighboring Oak Valley Ranch.
